Kirby's Epic Yarn: A beautiful game with hidden potentional

 



    Kirby's Epic Yarn is an action platformer Developed by Nintendo for the Wii. It was released in 2010 and is for all ages, but is primarily for young school-age children. It's a 2.5D sidescroller with similar game mechanics to previous installments in the Kirby series. The levels allow for exploration and treasure hunting, encouraging players to look for hidden items. This creates a game with high replayability.

    The first thing I noticed about the game was the incredible art design. The environments and characters are brightly colored and fun to interact with. Unlike previous games in the Kirby series, Kirby is made up of yarn in the world, allowing for numerous new game mechanics.


    Kirby's Epic Yarn is extremely easy to pick up and play. It's not even necessary to be familiar with platformers. This game is designed with young children in mind so it was clearly important to have intuitive controls. The player starts in a hub world and selects levels that they have unlocked. Once in the level they use Kirby to traverse the obstacles until they reach the end. Additional rewards are given for collecting beads, allowing for an extra challenge.




    Kirby's Epic Yarn comes across as very easy because it is, there's not even a death penalty. If Kirby sustains enough damage they will poof into a pile of yarn, only to be made new a few moments later. But the challenge is not in completing the level alone, at least not for more experienced players.


    

Younger players who may only want to get to the end are able to do that. But for more seasoned players who want a more substantial meal, Kirby's Epic Yard offers a wide variety of collectibles, hidden achievements, and bonuses to add to a player's experience.


Pros: This game is very easy to pick up and play. Its intuitive controls make it simple for a novice and pro to play together.The art design is second to none, each level is a feast for the eyes.

Cons: The lack of a death mechanic often made me feel like I wasn't playing a game, I was just holding the control pad right. It made me lose interest after a short amount of time.
